Why are white papers so hard to write? Simply put, they require effort. Effort makes us sweat. Just the thought of working hard causes some people’s blood to percolate. So what’s the trick to getting words to paper? I’d like to think that a big part of the problem is having the wrong equipment. You don’t send a hiker into the bush with a butter knife-you have him wield a machete! So what are the critical tools necessary to get underway on white papers?
- Classical music: Start by soothing the mind with some tunes that let you focus.
- Dr. Pepper: A little caffeine goes a long way for me.
- Time (something you cannot buy): Don’t rush a masterpiece; take some time to think it through.
- A clipboard: It’s useful to get in the car and go somewhere strange and start writing (or just roll down the window and act like you are going somewhere). A clipboard is your portable table.
- Dictation software: A must-have for those of us who are two-finger typists.
I’d love to hear your tips to getting underway. Come visit me on the forum and let’s talk.
