We've been using Twitter for a couple of month's or so now and have built up just under 4000 followers. We are trying it out to publicise the free presentation skills tips on our blog to people who might never have found us just by Googling. So far results are promising - with about 30% plus of our daily website visitors coming directly from Twitter. I think it's important to point out that Twitter can be valuable for b2b's as well. Tapping into Twitter to establish Mico-communities for example, is a great way to extend a brand, as you point out, and cast a wider net of direct communications along with a business blog and linkedin groups.
