Some great advice. I think using FB depends on your intended market. I run a B2B company and find the effort on facebook marketing far exceeds the rewards so far!

I do however LOVE the idea of using social networking to enhance the customer experience and allowing new customers to get a balanced objective view of you business.

Social networking will be end up like email; businesses will soon not know how to live without it!

Great help! Thank you! Great advice on the no hard sell. I've been overwhelmed with folks doing that and I'm concerned about the impact it has on the general user that we are trying to reach.

Well written and good advice. As a "brick and mortar" pottery shop with a website (but not an online store...at least not yet!) I can tell everyone that social media marketing is excellent. Facebook is by far the best to keep my brand fresh and to remind my fans and friends of what I'm working on in the pottery shop and studio. And, it has helped generate sales into my shop. By the way, there is a "share button" that you can drag into your toolbar so that you can share any article you read with your facebook fans. I just can't recall where I found this wonderful addon feature.

Well written article. Facebook is like throwing a hand full of stones into a still pond and watching the concentric circles overlap. There are certain professions that this type of marketing works and and others that do not. I am a Realtor and have used Facebook extensively. I could not imagine a fire fighter using it for business. How can I link this article to FB?

Kevin,

Excellent ideas! I'd been wondering about how to separate business and personal on Facebook.

Can anyone share insights about how using Facebook & other social media could impact NON-online businesses and their customers? Web 2.0 strategies are ideal for the online clientele, but what about "brick & mortar" businesses and their customers? It would be interesting to know how their customer satisfaction scores compare, but I believe the Aberdeen study was primarly addressing online consumers.
