In a recent WhitePaperSource Newsletter article, Brent Applegate discussed content-targeted advertising on sites such as CNET and with services such as Industry Brains. Here is a bit from the article:
Quote:
Content-targeted ads gain mindshare from your target audience when they are reading relevant on-line editorial content. For example, while reading an article on CNET News about servers, a potential customer might see related white papers at the end of the article as additional resources. Well-informed white paper advertisers are leveraging the power of content-targeted ads to better promote their papers. While the playing field for content-targeted white papers ads is still evolving, this article will help you to make sense of the options...

Your thoughts??

I hate to say it, but I think that people are starting to "tune out" these ads, just as they do banners.

It is sometimes misleading. Many of these ads should read "Let a sales person call you and we'll let you read a sales brochure."

I hope that doesn't seem offensive to anyone here. Its really more directed toward the larger publishers and their trying to generate "leads".

Well written white papers are, in my opinion, the best way to generate leads, its just a matter of getting large numbers of people to read them that creates a problem.
