Hi Everyone;
Just wondering what your experience has been with in e-mail marketing. I am not talking about spam, but rather cultivating leads with opt-in subscribers via newsletters, e-mail courses, etc.
Has anyone found them to be effective? Do you have any tips?

Wow Mike, this is a big subject! Where to start...?
Ezines are one form of email marketing, personal emails another, and autoresponders yet another. I've used each. I find the method of delivery in some ways is dictated by my business purpose as well as the recipients preferences. For example, I've created ecourses (delivered via autoresponder) to provide information/knowledge chunks on a specific topic. And I've used ezines for about six years to both inform and sell. And whenever I come across something of interest to a particular person, I fire it to him or her in a personal email message.
About a year ago I switched from using the 1shoppingcart.com system to using the aweber.com system. At this point, I believe I would have done better to stay with 1shoppingcart.com. In the switch, I lost about 3000 subscribers, many of whom attempted to subscribe via the new system but were classified as "unverified". Once they are so categorized in the aweber system, there was nothing they or I as the list owner could do to help them become subscribers. So my big tip right now is to really check out the technology you'll be using to make sure it works for you!
Warmly,

I'm not a huge fan of Internet marketing, full stop. It has its place, of course, but using it to the exclusion of all else, as so many business owners do, is a big mistake.
The same things making email and ezines desirable to us as business owners (cheap and easy) are the same things making them eminently disposable by the recipient.
Question: how many ezines and email lists do YOU subscribe to, only never to read them?
This is exactly why I cut my emails to my list down to once a week or so and added a free monthly paper newsletter. The ROI from the paper newsletter leaves the ROI from the emails standing.
The other thing harks back to what Earl Nightingale said: "the majority is always wrong". If you can't figure out a course of action and have nothing to go on, take a look and see what everyone else is doing and do the opposite.

I like email as part of a multi-channel marketing campaign. For new acquisitons or to guage real interest, I like one-to-one postcards or emails with a RURL landing page. Folks that land on that page are highly qualified leads.
